Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.

The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
