Air travel have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a significant ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

Every arrival and departure were halted after an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are expected to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers are still being urged to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the hub as residual delays are worked through.
