Rob Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the squad's ten-game winless start to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a potential hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton Town manager - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club directors as they begin the search of hiring a new head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is out of work meaning Wolves would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
