Arne Slot has stated that the club's hierarchy are aligned with his perspective regarding the poor performance streak and he refuses to compromise their offensive approach in search of a turnaround. The manager admitted that six unsuccessful results in seven games was unacceptable ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Liverpool's coach recognized the pressure was on before his makeshift team suffered Carabao Cup elimination against Crystal Palace. However, he insisted that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the club's ownership or football administration following a summer transfer outlay of nearly £450 million.
"Our views align," stated the manager, whose squad will encounter Real Madrid in the continental tournament and play against the Citizens in the domestic competition.
The coach is convinced his team "possess an exceptional group if they are completely available and all ready for the fixture list". He said that the recent signings in footballers like the German international and the Swedish striker, who is probably unavailable again against Villa through fitness issues, had left the club "in an excellent position for the immediate prospects and the distant prospects".
When asked why his team were taking so long to gel, he replied: "That's not particularly helpful. 'What are the reasons?' I offer insights and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can come up with several explanations why we are underperforming or losing as much as we do but, as I always emphasize, there are inadequate reasons to have a results sequence as we had now."
Only the Clarets (twenty-one) have conceded more clear opportunities from normal situations this season than the Merseysiders (nineteen). The league leaders, the Gunners, have conceded only two. Yet Slot denies the champions have been too open and claims there is no justification to abandon offensive philosophy for a more pragmatic style after ten matches without a goalless performance.
"From my perspective we don't conceding a lot of chances so I don't see a reason to change our playing style totally but we need to do better in preventing goals," he declared.
"Against Manchester United, how many chances did we concede? Versus the German side when we were 3-1 up, we scarcely gave up a effort at our net. In every match we have competed in we haven't allowed a numerous openings. Absolutely not. We do allow a slightly more than the previous campaign but that is related to us being behind early so you play more openly. But typically I don't think that our challenge is that we concede too many chances. Our issue is we fail to convert the opportunities we generate."
